New Sugar Factory to Produce 40,000 Tons of Sugar Annually

GYUMRI, Nov. 9 (ArmenPress) - A new sugar factory will be put into operation in 27 months in the second-largest Armenian town of Gyumri. The factory's capacities will enable it to produce 40,000 tons of sugar per year, providing 1000 people with jobs. After two workshops for production of beet spirit and lemon acid ferment are put into operation, another 1000 jobs will be available.

The factory will create good prospects for sugar-beet cultivation for nearly 20,000 farmers in the provinces of Shirak and Lori.

The factory is to be built by the local Silvi concern with the assistance of Swiss Andre Group, Czech Skoda and funds from the World Bank and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The foundation stone of the factory was laid November 8 at a special ceremony.
