Samvel Babayan's Trial Postponed

STEPANAKERT, Nov. 9 (ArmenPress) - The Supreme Court of Nagorno Karabagh has decided to suspend the trial of former commander of Karabagh army Samvel Babayan and 14 other defendants, all accused of masterminding and executing an assassination attempt on the life of Karabagh leader Arkady Ghukasian last March 22, in order to ask the Armenian health ministry to conduct a thorough medical examination of Sasoun Aghajanian, the man who, the prosecutors say, shot at Ghukasian.

The Armenian doctors should decide whether Aghajanian is mentally and physically healthy enough to stand trial. Aghajanian is said to not be able to even move without help. He cannot control his movements and does not react to what is going around him.

The medical examination should also reveal whether or not injuries and shell shock suffered previously by Aghajanian could have led to his current state.

Earlier both Armenian and Karabagh doctors found Aghajanian fit to stand trial.
