The Robert Boghossian Foundation of Geneva, Switzerland, Embarks on New Humanitarian Projects for Armenia

PARIS, France - The Geneva-based Robert Boghossian Foundation has disclosed new plans to fund two major humanitarian projects in Armenia.

The Foundation, through the two sons of the late Robert Boghossian, has so far funded a number of other similar projects.

All the projects have been realized through the Armenian Fund of France.

The first project consists of a school to be located in the Meghvik region of Gumri for the education of local youth. The school will be a part of a center created by a local couple, who opened their home to provide shelter to the survivors of the 1988 earthquake that struck the area.

The school will concentrate its educational program on preparing students for some professions which will ensure them income-bearing work when they grow up.

The total cost of the project is $365,700, of which $279,180 will be furnished by the Foundation, with the balance of $86,520 coming from the Armenian Social Fund and the World Bank. This will be the first time that the Foundation will be cooperating with the World Bank.

The second project will consist of the renovation of a Cultural Center in Spitak, the town that was completely destroyed in the earthquake.

The Center, which was started by the government of Armenia, was never completed. The Foundation has earmarked $218,000 to that end.

Completion of the project is set for the year 2,001. Completion of the Meghvik School is set for 2,002.

All the construction work will be supervised by "Hayastan" All-Armenian Fund.
