Yerevan City Hall Functions without Telephones
YEREVAN, Dec.1 (ArmenPress) - It's been two months since Armentel
Telecommunications, Armenia's telephone provider, disconnected all the telephones in Yerevan city hall because a 20-million-dram debt to Armentel accrued since 1994.
The only means of communication for city hall officials are cellular phones and the so-called governmental line, which is supposed to be dismantled beginning from January 1.
According to a senior official at city hall, most of the accrued debt is from telephone conversations and private international calls which have been made by city hall employees, supposedly, to their relatives abroad. City hall is preparing to make an investigation to find out who made the calls and take appropriate measures.
City hall, in turn, is complaining about Armentel having placed phone booths in the capital's streets without city hall's permission.
