High Technology Development Must Be A Priority

YEREVAN, Nov. 9 (ArmenPress) - "The high technology sector must be declared as a priority for such a country as Armenia with its unfavorable geographical position and transport junctions," the head of the Armenian branch of the American "Leda Systems" company Hovik Musayelian told a November 8 press conference.

The Armenian branch of the company started operating October 26 with a staff of 40 programmers whose average salary is $800. Mr. Musayelian said that, until the end of the year, the number of employees should reach 60 and next year it will double. The investments in the Armenian branch of the "Leda systems" are likely to comprise $1.5-2 million next year. In Musayelian's words, during 20 days of its operation, the company has received so many orders for designing programs that it had to refuse some of them.

"Foreign investors know that this sector is less risky and high technologies are likely to develop quickly," he said. Despite some success, there is still a great demand for good programmers in Armenia. Musayelian expressed readiness to invest money in preparing high-quality programmers in Armenia.
