Economic Crime on the Rise
YEREVAN, Nov.27 (ArmenPress) - Though the volume of serious crime has dropped in Armenia over the last 2-3 years, the volume of economic crime has seen a 3 percent increase, a senior official of the prosecutor's office told Armenpress.
Gevorg Danielian, the head of the department for protection of national assets, said that 30 criminal cases, involving economic crime, were instituted this year. Twenty actions on 3 billion drams were brought to court, but only 10 percent of this sum was restored.
The statistics show that the actual number of companies dealing with mineral resources usage is much more larger than the registered ones. The investigations revealed that around 70 percent of such companies are not registered.
According to Danielian, several actions have been brought to court and one million drams were restored.
