TINTON FALLS, NJ - The Hirair and Anna Hovnanian Foundation, which was incorporated in 1986 and whose mission is to make donations for charitable, religious, scientific, literary, or educational purposes, has announced several additional donations as it closes out its Year 200 contributions.
A $1,000,000 donation was made to complete its commitment of a $2,000,000 pledge to the Endowment Fund of the Armenian Assembly of America, which was made in March 1999.
The Armenian Assembly of America, which was founded in 1972, is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization representing Armenian interests through advocacy, research and education. The organization, headquartered in Washington, DC, has played a major role in furthering Armenian interests. Hirair Hovnanian, who has served as Co-Chairman and Chairman of the Board of Trustees since its inception, has played a pivotal role in leading this important organization through the last decade of growth and expansion.
The Foundation also made a number of donations to the Armenia Fund USA for various causes. Among them was a donation of $250,000 to the building of the North-South "Backbone" Highway in Nagorno-Karabagh, $25,000 towards replacement of a Healthcare Center in Stepanakert which is currently beyond repair, and a donation of $300,000 to complete a $500,000 pledge to the Orphans Fund which was established in honor of His Holiness Karekin I to support those orphaned by the Nagorno Karabagh war. The goal of the Fund is to raise a total of $1.5 million and provide for the orphans through interest income. $30,000 per month will provide for 6,000 orphans annually.
