Karabagh Court Interrogates Samvel Babayan for Second Time
YEREVAN, Dec. 29 (ArmenPress) - Former Karabagh defense minister Samvel Babayan was interrogated again on December 28 by the Supreme Court in Stepanakert where he and another fourteen defendants are standing trial on charges of plotting to kill Karabagh leader Arkady Ghukasian last March 22.
Babayan reaffirmed his previous testimonies, given in the course
of the preliminary investigation, that at his order, a certain amount of arms and armament (mainly trophy) had not been registered since 1994 in two military units of the Karabagh defense army.
Recently, the armament, also at his order, was moved to Msmna village and hidden in his own house. According to Babayan, Sasoun Aghajanian had not been aware of moving the armament. Babayan denied giving money to Sasoun Aghajanian for it to be passed on to Levon Mirzoyan, another man, along with
Aghajanian, charged with direct execution of the terrorist act.
He confirmed that, on April 18, he had invited Aghajanian and Erik Pharamazian to his place to discuss the issue of disbanding his personal bodyguards and returning their registered arms. According to him, they did not say about anything else and, by that, he refuted Aghajanian's testimonies, who a day earlier had told the court that he had never gone to the latter's place.
Babayan rejected his testimonies of April 3, in which he had admitted that he had ordered to commit the assassination of Ghukasian. He explained his refusal by the fact that, while giving his testimonies, he did not realize what he was saying and doing.
At the same time, to the remark of the prosecution on the fact that he had answered the questions clearly and precisely, moreover, with those tiny details, which could not be known to anybody except him, defendant Babayan did not explain.
