Seismic Center Warned of Possible Earthquake

YEREVAN, Nov. 27 (ArmenPress) - The head of the Armenian National Seismic Service (ANSS) Sergey Balasanian said today that five days prior to November 25 earthquake that rocked Azerbaijan's capital of Baku and some parts of Turkey, he had sent a letter to the Armenian government warning of the possible earthquake.

Balasanian said that early on November 25, a smaller tremor of the earth was registered by the National Seismic Service, which is usually followed by a strong earthquake. Balasanian said the earthquake was felt in the entire region.

Balasanian said no information on the smaller tremor was sent to any other country, as, according to him, the Armenian Service has no appropriate agreements on providing such information.

According to Balasanian, the aftershocks of the Baku quake will continue for at least another six months.
