Archbishop Mutafian Urges Turkish Authorities to Lift Visa Restrictions with Armenia
YEREVAN, Nov. 24 (ArmenPress) - The Turkish foreign ministry has prepared a special program to counterattack Armenian activities aimed at international recognition of the 1915 genocide committed by the Turkish government.
According to it, an Armenian-Turkish conference of historians is to be convened to discuss the issue and try to find ways to regulate it
The Turkish authorities also plan to improve the conditions of Armenians residing in Turkey, as they supported Ankara's efforts in opposing genocide recognition.
As the Turkish Milliyet daily writes, the authorities turned to the head of Armenian Patriarchate of Istanbul and All Turkey, Archbishop Mutafian, for help. The Patriarch is said to have asked the authorities to lift the visa restrictions imposed on Armenia and regulate relations with Armenia.
In a related development, the Armenian Patriarch of Istanbul and All Turkey supported the initiative of His Holiness Alexy II, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, who invited His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, and His Excellency Allah-Shukur Pashazade, Sheikh-ul-Islam of the
Caucasus, to meet in the Danilov Monastery in Moscow on Friday, November 24, to discuss matters related to their contribution to a peaceful solution of the Karabagh conflict and prayed for the reconciliation of the peoples of the two neighboring Caucasian republics.
